Exactly one day after turning the political world upside down by defecting from the AAP to the BJP, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha delivered a fierce attack on his erstwhile mentor and AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal. Chadha, addressing the media as a new BJP MP and an ex-AAP, made it clear that he meant business when it came to breaking ties with his old political masters over the Sheesh Mahal 2 issue.
The “Sheesh Mahal” Angle
According to Chadha, the recently announced losses suffered by the AAP in the assembly polls held in Delhi had been caused by the negative publicity generated by the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s private property. “The Sheesh Mahal controversy was not just a political issue, but the reason why AAP lost,” said Chadha. “This destroyed the image of AAP as being a party of the common man. AAP should do some soul-searching rather than play the victim card.”
Reflecting on his decision to exit alongside six other MPs, Chadha suggested that the party’s internal culture has become toxic for those seeking genuine public service. He painted a picture of an organization that has lost its moral compass.
“Every honest, hardworking person feels that there is no longer room for work in the Aam Aadmi Party,” Chadha told reporters. “The party is now walking on a wrong path that no one wants to be associated with. Consequently, one by one, many leaders have left.”
It hurts even more the AAP party as he was their “sophisticated face” on television channels and is closely linked with the Punjab leadership. His quick switch to BJP lingo where he criticized the alleged corruption and “kingly” behavior of the AAP party leadership shows that BJP is going to use the rebels as major ammunition for the upcoming urban and state fights.
In the wake of “Friday Exodus” for AAP, the move by Chadha has clearly shown that politics in Delhi has entered into its next level of fight.
