The speculation about the fresh political rift in Uttar Pradesh between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the fore when the state minister and Suheldev of the Bharatiya Samaj Party (BSP) OP Rajbhar had sent out the message that the party could experience big fissures in its ranks given that several leaders were ready to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In a write-up on social media site X, Rajbhar hinted that the harassment of alleged corruption probes had raised the opposition party’s nerves. He also alleged that senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav had gone to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, but so far there is no official statement regarding it.
Rajbhar also made an allegation that a big chunk of the Samajwadi Party establishment was willing to change its political platform. His comments immediately brought conversations in political circles to a head, just as several regional parties have been reporting on internal problems and alleged feuds in their governing leaderships throughout the country.
The Samajwadi Party vehemently否认了the allegations. Party spokesperson Manish Singh gave him the brush-off and said his political relevance was in question. He pointed out that the SP was united and contended that the strength of its organisational framework far outweighed Rajbhar’s political outfit.
There are frequent and repeated rumors of defections and party divisions that have emerged prior to critical elections, but most are not confirmed by formal statements or the emergence of party members into new coalitions, political party organizations, or other political groups.
Meanwhile it is not known if either Ram Gopal Yadav or Samajwadi government had thought to split the party. The BJP, by the same token, hasn’t spoken about Rajbhar’s allegations about defectors.
The remarks have thrown an additional layer of politics over Uttar Pradesh for now, as people now sit and wait to see any major breakthroughs in the next few weeks.
Akhilesh Yadav was also asked about this in an event. He gave a hilarious response by saying, “Dana aur gana kab tak chalega yeh afsana.”
