Kolkata: In what comes as the first time for the state, BJPs Suvendhu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister of the state. The oath ceremony was held at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground. Adhikari’s initial team includes Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul and Nishit Pramanik, among others who will also take oath with him.

Top BJP cadre, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former party chief JP Nadda, BJP president Nitin Nabin along with BJP chief ministers including Yogi Adityanath, Rekha Gupta, Bhupendra Patel were seen at the historic swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari.

On the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government in West Bengal, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said, “…Under the leadership of PM Modi and Suvendu Adhikari, the state government will practise the politics of trust and development…”

Soon after being elected as candidate for the top post, Adhikari met Governor R N Ravi at Lok Bhavan and formally staked claim to form the government. Adhikari first served as an aid to the then CM of the state – Ms. Banarjee

Calling the occasion historic mandate, the party members said that the new government will focus on governance, industrial growth, and improving law and order in the state.

The BJP came to power ending TMCs 15 year old rule with its tumultuous electoral history. BJP secured 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 80 seats.
