The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a vehement critique against the Modi government for resigning or firing Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in view of the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case that forced the authorities to cancel the entire May 3 test.
Gandhi, in a statement videoed and uploaded on his X account, expressed his strong solidarity with almost two-and-a-half million students who have failed their dream due to years of hard work. He pointed out that the National Testing Agency’s prestigious test was reduced to being an “auction,” citing reports that questions leaked through WhatsApp days before the test date.
He condemned the education minister’s move to disassociate himself from the mess, alleging that corruption and greed have become hallmarks of the ruling party. The takeover of prestigious academic institutions by those in line with the ideology of the ruling party has systematically ruined the merit-based selection system of the country.
One of the pillars of criticism of Gandhi was towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The former strongly criticized the Prime Minister for continuing to be silent when it comes to a crisis affecting millions of Indians and their children.
As Gandhi mentioned, despite the fact that the government has introduced more stringent laws against paper leaks, in reality, the situation is filled with a variety of problems due to numerous paper leaks over the last ten years. Since the paper leak issue is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation and many individuals have been arrested across the country, the situation is highly charged politically.
