Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended Good wishes to the newly appointed national office bearers and those given various responsibilities in the party. Taking to his social media handle on X, Modi said that the new team brings together organizational experience, energy and grassroot connect, and expressed confidence that they would work to strengthen the party and focus on public service
Ahead of the State elections, the BJP under the leadership of national chief Nitin Nabin announced a fresh team. In a move to focus on regional representation, a mix of seasoned leaders and young faces have been inducted on key posts.
A major development in this appointment is the return of former Union Minister Smriti Irani to a core organisation role as one of the national general secretaries of the BJP. Another name is the former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Six of the 13 national vice presidents are women, including a push for a representation of women in the party’s core roles. These include four women secretaries, a woman general secretary, apart from two of the Muslim community. The appointments indicate a push towards the southern and eastern states, with leaders in Kerala, West Bengal, Odisha and Northeast receiving prominent secretary and vice president positions.
Ram Madhav has been appointed as a national vice president. Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb has also been inducted as a general secretary. Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, replacing Rajesh Agarwal, while Anil Baluni continues as media convenor. Amit Malviya has been replaced as social media convenor by Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh, signalling a greater emphasis on the party’s social media apparatus. The spokespersons’ list has also been curtailed.
Among the national general secretaries, Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal are the only two to have been retained, according to the new list. B L Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), while Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat and Baijayant Panda are among the national vice presidents. Five of the 13 vice presidents are women, including former Union minister Bharti Pawar.
