Mumbai: Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party today announced the second list of candidates for the scheduled Maharashtra Assembly election after Zeeshan Siddique joins Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress party. He shared the list on X.
Zeeshan Siddique, son of ex-Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui – who was shot dead on October 12 – joined the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress party Friday morning. He joined in the presence of Mr Pawar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister ahead of Maharashtra assembly election.
“Party entry program of MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of late leader of NCP, Baba Siddiqui was held. It is believed that Zeeshan will continue his father’s legacy of public service and social service. I warmly welcome him and wish him a successful career ahead”, wrote Ajit Pawar on X.
Mr Siddique will defend the Vandre (East) seat he won in the 2019 election when he was with the Congress. His opponent will be Varun Sardesai, the nephew of Uddhav Thackeray, whose Shiv Sena faction is allied with the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP group as the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court said that the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) must include a disclaimer while using the “clock” symbol as directed by the top court. A three-judge bench headed by Justice Surya Kant made the observation while hearing a plea filed by the NCP faction led by veteran leader Sharad Pawar over the use of the “clock” symbol.
