Congress MP Imran Masood on Monday called for a transparent investigation into the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement controversy, questioning the government’s handling of the matter and seeking clarity on the probe process.
Speaking on the issue, Masood described the alleged misappropriation of donations meant for the Ram Mandir as a serious concern and said any wrongdoing involving devotees’ contributions must be thoroughly examined. He said the allegations, if proven, would amount to a breach of trust and could hurt the faith of millions of devotees.
Masood also questioned the decision to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, asking under what legal provisions such a step was taken in the absence of a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the Congress leader, the government should explain the procedural and legal basis for launching the investigation in its current form. He argued that transparency in the probe process is essential to maintain public confidence and ensure accountability.
The Congress MP stressed that the allegations should be investigated impartially and that all facts related to the case should be brought into the public domain. He said a thorough inquiry would help establish the truth and address concerns surrounding the alleged embezzlement of donations.
Masood’s remarks come amid an ongoing political debate over the alleged irregularities and the manner in which authorities have responded to the controversy. Authorities have not publicly commented on the concerns raised by the Congress leader regarding the formation of the SIT.
However, the SIT is expected to hand over its preliminary report to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today. The team had reached to meet Yogi on Sunday evening, but the meeting could not take place. The CM was busy with the monsoon session and other meetings.
