Bhopal: Leading up to the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh political leaders are escalating their rhetoric creating a highly charged atmosphere. Specifically Kamal Nath, Chief Minister and Congress leader who also heads the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has launched a verbal attack on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Kamal Nath took to the media to assert that the Madhya Pradesh BJP is facing despair. Initially Prime Minister Narendra Modi refrained from mentioning Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s name effectively sidelining him from the competition for the Chief Ministers position. In response the Chief Minister started seeking opinion on whether he should participate in the elections or not. Furthermore he is now directly questioning whether Modi should continue as Prime Minister or not.
Nath implies that a clash within the BJP between the Chief Minister and Prime Minister is inevitable. Those who have received party tickets are unwilling to run while those left out of the ticket allocation are still fighting for their place. As a result Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is now seeking input on whether he should contest in these elections or not.
In interactions with the public there has been some ambiguity displayed by the Chief Minister himself. On October 3rd, in Budhni he pondered over whether he should contest from there or not.
Earlier in Sehore he mentioned that his absence would be deeply felt. On Friday in Dindori he asked about the government’s performance. Contemplated whether he should consider taking up the role of Chief Minister more.
