INDORE: A 54-year-old principal of a private pharmacy college in Indore succumbed to the burns that she suffered in an alleged attack by a former student over a mark sheet on Monday. Battling for life for five days she breathed her last on Saturday in the wee hours said the police. The death of the principal of BM college of Pharmacy Prof Vimukta Sharma was confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police Shashikant Kankane. Notably, the former student was arrested on Tuesday. A case has been registered under section 307 of IPC.
The incident took place on Monday when the accused Ashutosh Shrivastav allegedly poured petrol on her and set her ablaze during college hours. According to doctors at Choithram Hospital, Vimukta had suffered 80 percent burns. SP Bhageant Singh added that accused himself auffered 25 percent burns while attacking the principal and was hospitalized after being arrested.
Officials quoted the accused as saying he passed the B.Pharma exam in July 2022, but despite many demanded the management failed to give his mark sheet- a charge rejected by the management. The secretary of the college- Rakesh Sharma said,” our college is no role in the withholding of Srivastava’s mark sheet. It is the responsibility of Rajiv Gandhi technological university Bhopal to issue the marksheet to students passed.”
As per reports Srivastava had already faced charges of attacking a college professor with a knife about four months ago over the mark sheet dispute. He was arrested for the same and released on bail.
