After the death of 10 elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, the effect of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav’s strictness is visible in Betul as well. In Betul forest area, the forest department team raided Selda beat of Shahpur range and caught four forest mafia red handed while hunting wild animals and illegally cutting teak in the forest.

Madhya Pradesh is home to a significant elephant population, with estimates varying. In recent years, the state has witnessed concerning incidents of elephant deaths, often attributed to factors like habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and the consumption of toxic plants. These deaths highlight the urgent need for effective conservation measures and conflict mitigation strategies to protect these majestic creatures.

The forest mafia had also cut down teak in the forest, which damaged the nests of wild animals on the teak trees. The accused had also laid traps to hunt wild animals. These were recovered by the forest staff. Four bikes and hunting traps were found with the accused.

The forest department has registered various cases of forest crime against the forest mafia and arrested the accused. All the accused are said to be residents of Khaparia village. They cut teak in the forest and also hunt wild animals. The team has caught them from the forest on the information of an informer.
