Indore: The Indore administration on Thursday evening dug a pit to dispose of the carcasses of nearly 67 cows that were recovered from a gaushala in Pedmi district.
A team of veterinary doctors including deputy director Ashok Kumar Berathiya, Dr Shashank Jumde and Dr Suresh Malviya, police and city administration executed to burial digging a pit at an open land nearby. An autopsy report is being drawn from the horns, skin, tail and other cues from the carcasses.
The incident came to light on Thursday, after grisly videos of dogs feeding on the carcasses in the Ahilya Mata Gaushala made rounds. Residents nearby staged protested and demanded strict action against those responsible.
On allegations of not ‘following the rules of disposing’ dead cattle, gaushala president Rameshwar Lal Asawa said, “We are following the traditional way of disposing dead animals. Cow rearers used to leave sick and old animals here and despite all possible care, they died.”
As soon the matter heated up, police officials from Khudali police station arrested the manager Ashok Ramdin and summoned the owners for questioning. Police were’ deployed and tehsildar Pallavi Pournaik said, “revenue officials have begun an examination of the land. We are checking if the land was provided by the govt or was it illegally acquired.”
