KHARGONE: A retired ASI accused of holding riots on the occasion of Ram Navami in Khargone last year was nabbed by the Khargone police on Saturday near the SDM Office. The accused ASI identified as Nazir Ahmed held a reward of Rs 2,000.
Acting on a tip-off, the Khargone police reached the District Court where the son of the wanted retired officer was seen. The police detained Ahmed’s son to probe the whereabouts of the retired officer. The officer has been arrested and is being interrogated, sources in the know said. He will be produced before the court, where the police according to sources will ask for 2 days of remand in order to extract details from the accused absconding for 10 months.
Two months ago, the accused had moved the District Court submitting a petition for anticipatory bail. The court, however, rejected the plea, and henceforth, the accused was absconding. A case has been registered against Nazir for stone pelting, sabotage, arson, blasting, and other several other sections.
Khargone’s Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary received bullet injury in the violence and besides him, at least 24 people, including six policemen, were also injured after riots sparked in Khargone.
Around 300 arrests have been made so far in connection with the violence that erupted in Khargone in April last year on the occasion of Ram Navami.
