Kolkata: A petitioner Adv Anindya Sundar Das filed a caveat in Calcutta HC, challenging the order of a large bench on West Bengal post-poll violence. The HC on Thursday ordered a court-monitored CBI probe along with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that would be headed for senior members of the West Bengal cadre.

The team would comprise Director General (Communications) Suman Bala Sahoo, Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra and Additional Director General (Administration-1) Ranvir Kumar.

The High Court will monitor both the investigations. The bench has directed both the CBI and the SIT to submit a status report in six weeks.

A five-judge bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal pronounced three separate but concurring verdicts. The court had reserved its verdict on August 3. Another hearing of the case is scheduled for October 24.

West Bengal had witnessed a spell of violence after the state underwent assembly polls on May 2. Cases of rapes, murders, molestation and vandalism were reported from local sources in West Bengal while the teams campaigned. The BJP and TMC blamed each other for the vicious incidents.
