New Delhi: The EC on Saturday ordered fresh polls in all 285 polling stations of 144-Falta Assembly Constituency scrapping votes held on April 29th. As per reports all 285 polling stations in the South 24 Parganas will conduct re-voting on May 21 between 7am-6pm under heightened security. The votes will be counted on May 24th.
The order came after reports of irregularities like allegations of voter intimidation, unauthorised presence inside polling booths and possible tampering with voting machines. was reported to the EC. EC following a detailed review of complaints from ground level authorities to existing records declared the earlier poll’ void’.
According to officials from ECI, the scale and seriousness of the complaints made it impossible to certify the April 29 votes as fair. BJP leaders claimed that EVMS were tampered in several booth with their symbol being covered thereby preventing voters from choosing them.
Repolling was held across 11 polling booths in Magrahat Paschim Assembly and 4 booths in the Diamond Harbour Assembly on Saturday.
West Bengal underwent elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29th. Repolling is being conducted across select booth after EC received massive complains of irregulates during the polls.
