Haryana: The Haryana Police used water cannons on Saturday morning to disperse farmers who had gathered outside Haryana CM’s residence to oppose events of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leaders.
The protesters jumped barricaded and tried to enter the venue where Chief Minister ML Khattar’s residence is. The police claim to have used water cannon to disperse the protesters as they gathered outside the residence and some of them jumped over the barricades to force their way inside. Chandigarh’s senior police officials and the deputy commissioner reached the spot to oversee law and order. In the Chandigarh district too, the police used a water cannon to disperse a group of farmers. This was after the centre postponed buying Kharif, or monsoon, paddy from Punjab and Haryana till October 11th. It said crop maturity had been delayed due to recent rains.
On October 1st, farmers and police in the state clashed yet again as protesters marched against an event attended by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala in Jhajjar.
