Chennai: This historic moment that has led to a new political landscape in South India saw C. Joseph Vijay, who founded the TVK, sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning. This oath-taking event took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, which is the first time a third political force other than the two major ruling parties – DMK and AIADMK – has come into power in Tamil Nadu since 1967.
Vijay & Cabinet ministers Take The oath
The swearing-in ceremony of Joseph Vijay took place around 10:00 AM by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar amid cheering throngs of fans and dignitaries from across the country. The mood of the occasion was indicative of the breaking away of the long-established ‘Dravidian politics’ rule that has dominated Tamil Nadu for over six decades.
The Governor also approved a nine-member Cabinet recommended by Vijay. The new council of ministers blends administrative experience with fresh faces:
- N. Anand (Bussy Anand): The party’s General Secretary.
- Aadhav Arjuna: Mastermind of the party’s campaign management.
- Dr. K.G. Arunraj: A former IRS officer spearheading policy.
- K.A. Sengottaiyan: A veteran nine-time MLA whose move from the AIADMK provided the TVK with crucial legislative experience.
- S. Keerthana: The MLA-elect from Virudhunagar who, as the lone woman in the initial list, becomes the youngest face in the state cabinet.
Other key appointments include P. Venkataramanan (Finance/Treasurer), R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, and Dr. T.K. Prabhu.
