The Supreme Court will continue the hearing of a case filed by Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy CM of Delhi, seeking an alteration to his bail conditions. Sisodia is seeking a variation of the order, which requires him to report to the investigating officer (IO) twice a week. The order was passed by a bench of Justices Bhushan R Gavai and KV Viswanathan, and mention of it was made by Sisodia’s counsel, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

At the hearing, Singhvi told the court that notice for this plea was served on November 22, but the matter was ordered to be taken up after two weeks. The two-week notice had ended, and the hearing was scheduled for December 10. However, when the case was not listed amongst the cases to be heard for the day, Sisodia’s lawyers applied for an early hearing. Singhvi called the case a ‘small matter’ and informed the court that it would not take considerable time, and therefore, the matter was put for hearing on Wednesday.

Sisodia was arrested in the Delhi excise policy case and was released on bail on August 9. Amongst the bail terms, he was supposed to report to the investigating officer every other Tuesday and Thursday. Post bail has been granted, Sisodia has not violated any of the conditions, he reports to the IO 60 times, and has attended all the trial calls 18 times. In his application to the Supreme Court, Sisodia said that the frequent appearances were becoming a nuisance and asked the court to change this while still allowing his interaction with the ongoing probe.
