Famous YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia has filed in the Supreme Court of India seeking the consolidation of a number of FIRs filed against him. These FIRs were lodged against him in connection with allegedly obscene and controversial remarks in a guest appearance on the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.”
Ranveer Allahbadia’s legal team has urged the Supreme Court against multiple legal proceedings at different jurisdictions that all FIRs are based on the same alleged offence. Before Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, his lawyer said so, confirmed the request, and said the case would be heard shortly.
The uproar began when a clip from the show became viral and was criticized by different quarters, including social media users and legal experts. Therefore, several complaints were filed in various states, with FIRs being registered under different sections of law related to obscenity and decency.
Allahabadia’s plea is that of keeping all such complaints in check of multiple FIRs on similar issues so as to avoid unnecessary burden on the judicial system and legal harassment of the accused. His legal counsel is expected to appeal for the consolidation of all cases as one case and get arrested or coercive relief.
Mumbai and Assam police, being handled the FIRs first for Ranveer Allahbadia’s case also reached his home in Mumbai for further interrogation. It is being reported that the police found his home locked upon visiting there.
