In yet another round of multi-state raids, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Wednesday continued its probe into the high profile Mahadev online betting case. Reports state that a leading news agency reported among the locations searched were premises linked to Nishant Pitti, founder and CEO of the popular travel booking platform EaseMyTrip.
The searches were done under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) while the ED is still trying to unravel the financial trail and its own illegal operations of the Mahadev online betting syndicate. It is a very important development in what’s becoming a very important blatant run at targeting people who we think might be working with the massive betting network directly or indirectly.
ED is into the Mahadev betting app case in which the company allegedly ran a nationwide alleged illegal betting operation with linking to big level of financial transactions and suspected laundering of money. Large sums of unaccounted cash, luxury assets and international connections have already emerged in earlier investigations. Exchanges were made online through a complex apps and agents network which, according to the syndicate, was used to run the syndicate and allow betting on cricket and other games and events.
If and when contacted positively by Nishant Pitti, either through EaseMyTrip or through his representative, then it will be concluded that he is indeed involved. This development itself is all the more noteworthy as the travel platform itself has been able to maintain a good online presence with its own presence in the online travel industry.
More details are expected to be released from the ED over the searches, which are still ongoing, and then when the evidence is assessed. This move, however, indicates that the agency is planning to stay in the driver’s seating to target influential individuals involved or benefiting the Mahadev betting racket.
