NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting via video conferencing with the Chief Ministers of 10 states. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss the situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic in the 10 worst hit states in India.
The meeting comes after “Unlock3” or the third phase of lifting of coronavirus-related restrictions across the country began last month.
While commencing the meeting, PM Modi said “Every state is fighting the battle against the challenging situation arising due to COVID-19 pandemic. Role of each and every state is very significant in overall control of the spread of the disease.”
He also highlighted the current rise in recovery rate and decrease in mortality rate and also indicated that with the right measures and precautions everything is achievable.
“The average fatality rate has been continuously decreasing while the recovery rate is increasing every day, this shows that measures being taken by us are in the right direction”, said Modi in the conference.
Talking about the role of state in curbing the pandemic situation in the concerned state, He said “States can play important role in Covid fight.”
“Today, there are 80% active cases in these ten states; therefore, the role of all these states is very big in the fight against”, He further added.
In the fight against coronavirus, Containment, Contact-tracing and Surveillance are the most effective weapons, said PM Modi.
In the Meeting, The chief ministers of various states asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove the cap on spending funds from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to meet the challenges posed by the coronavirus disease and other things.
In the video conference, Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The meeting commenced at 11am. Apart from them, Defence minister Rajnath Singh was also present in the review meeting.
This is the seventh meeting the Prime Minister took with chief ministers of different states in this pandemic. The last such meeting of PM Modi with the chief ministers of the states to discuss the situation of coronavirus was held in June.
Meanwhile, On Monday, the Prime Minister had held a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers of six states – Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala – to review the flood situation there.
