New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted raids at 60 locations across India in a bid to take down gangster syndicates. The 60 locations include places in Delhi, National Capital Region, Haryana and Punjab where gangs have been plotting from.
Among those being raided include members of Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldie Brar gang involved in the murder of singer Siddhu Moosewala and their rival gangs of Neeraj Bawania, Davinder Bambiha, Kaushal Chaudhary, Sunil alias Tillu Tajpuriya, Dilpreet, and Sukhpreet alias Budha as well as members of a syndicate run by absconding terrorist Harvinder Rinda in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, officials said.
The residential premises, hideouts, prisons from where these gangs operate and other places were being covered in the raids, which are part of a “larger conspiracy” probe taken up by the central anti-terror probe agency.
Sources said the NIA raids are in connection with two FIRs it took over from Delhi Police in connection with the murder and gangs associated with it. The Delhi Police had earlier invoked the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in these cases. They added that the Union Home Ministry had earlier asked the NIA to carry out intelligence-led coordinated operations against these gangsters across India, and also consider their international links
The crackdown comes a day after Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, during a press conference on the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, pointed to nexus between Punjab gangs and terror groups operating from Pakistan.
