The Pune fort murder case investigation has revealed that the accused had a plan to injure the woman’s fiancé (Ketan) instead of killing him so as to delay their marriage ceremony, which is why he allegedly changed his plans, finalising the murder.
On June 18, cops say Siya Goyal (20) and alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary (22) shoved Ketan Agarwal (26) into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune. The couple had been engaged in February and were expecting to be married in November.
Siya first claimed that he accidentally slipped on the trek to Ketan’s family. Police investigations, however, later came up with an alleged murder conspiracy, and both accused were arrested on June 23.
The two first proposed to inflict some damage upon Ketan, through a mock accident, to allow postponing the marriage, investigators said. However, they turned it down as they were not sure whether he would live or if he found out about the conspiracy he will expose them.
The urgency grew as Ketan and Siya were to hit the roads together to Bali in June, police said. The inquiry also found that the accused watched suspense films, did online research and looked into ways to ‘mask’ the crime as an accident.
In the preceding days, they were said to have scouted a couple of high vantage points like Tiger Point, Lonavala and Visapur Fort, before deciding on the murder spot at Lohagad Fort. According to police, the conspiracy took months of planning, both in the field and online.
