New Delhi: In a major development, JD-U had a national executive meeting in Delhi on Saturday that resolved to name Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha as the party’s new working president. The appointment proposal for Jha was recommended by JD-U’s national president and Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, and the members unanimously approved it. As for the organization structure, Nitish Kumar will stay incumbent on the top party post.

Sanjay Kumar Jha’s appointment has a clear objective more accentuated on the upcoming 2025 Bihar assembly elections. He is expected to support Nitish Kumar as the ruling combine, popularly called the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), heads to the polls. The latter is Jha, who became a Rajya Sabha MP only in April this year but is known to be a close aide of Nitish Kumar and was also deeply involved in the process of reintegration of JD-U in the NDA. His appointment also shows the party’s direction in continuing close cooperation with the BJP, which is its alliance partner.

Cabinet minister of Bihar, Ashok Chowdhary, was confident in Jha’s new role, indicating that “His appointment will aid the party in going further in India. ” All the party MPs, ministers, national executive members, general secretaries, secretaries, state presidents and other senior leaders were present during the meeting. Some of them are the discussion and crystal clear analysis held at the meeting regarding the newly concluded Lok Sabha elections and important planning regarding the upcoming assembly elections happening in the year 2025.

In this meeting, it was thankful to Nitish Kumar for the party’s good performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha, in which JD-U fought 16 seats and won 12. On the same note, the resolutions referred to the party’s contribution to attaining Narendra Modi’s third term in the position of the Prime Minister. Besides, the national executive decided to fight the upcoming assembly polls in Jharkhand later this year and reaffirmed its slogan of special category status to Bihar.
