Union Minister Amit Shah hailed operation Trident that targeted 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur.
Announcing the operation on X, Shah said that the cartel was trafficking narcotics across India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor.
He credited the central agencies and the state police forces for major crackdown on an international narcotics cartel. The operation he added was conducted as a part of the Centre’s mission to eliminate every drug network in the country by the end of December 2029.
“The offensive attests to India’s Himalayan resolve to realise the mission of eradicating every drug network by 31 December 2029. India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels,” Shah said.
Congratulating the anti-narcotics team, the home minister acknowledged the role of central agencies and the police forces of Assam, Mizoram and Manipur in the operation.”Heartiest congratulations to the anti-narcotics team comprising centralagencies, and police forces of the three states.”
The operation that was conducted on October 23, uncovered hawala transactions worth Rs 100 crore resulting in freezing of 1,424 bank accounts. Enforcement teams seized 500 detonators, 12 lakh rupees in cash, froze 1,424 bank accounts, and attached properties valued at 17.82 crore rupees. Nearly 18 arrests have been made involved the cross border drug cartel.
The trafficking network reportedly operated across the Bangladesh and Myanmar borders, with agencies continuing investigations into international linkages.
Previously, at the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads of states and Union territories in New Delhi in September, Shah said the country would collectively succeed in uprooting the drug trade by December 31, 2029.
