Gujarat’s Kshama Bindu successfully became the first to perform sologamy in India. The lady got married to herself with all the rituals of Mehendi and Haldi. However, the wedding was solemnized days ahead of the schedule decided earlier as she wanted to avert controversies after a BJP leader opposed her wedding.
After completing all the wedding rituals, she thanked everyone via a video message on Facebook. Expressing gratitude for the encouragement and support she has received, Bindu said, “I would like to thank everyone who has messaged me and congratulated me and gave me the power to fight for what I believed in.”
Talking about her intentions, Bindu who claims herself to be bisexual said she wished to break stereotypes and inspire others who are tired of finding true love.
Experts in the country say that sologamy does not have any legal backing in India. BJP leader Sunita Shukla, former deputy mayor of Gujarat’s Vadodara also opposed the marriage saying this act would reduce the Hindu population of the country.
