New Delhi: India recorded 2,71,202 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 94.51 per cent accounted for 1,38,331 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,50,85,721. The daily positivity rate stood at 16.28 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 15,50,377 accounting for 4.18 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise of 1,32,557 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.31 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 314 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,86,066.

Omicron variant cases tally rose to 7,743 the Union Health Ministry said today morning. Unaware of the new testing guidelines for COVID-19, a number of people, including those in need of a negative RT-PCR report to be able to work, are being turned away from testing centres in Delhi and surrounding areas. According to the Centre’s new guidelines, asymptomatic patients do not need to undergo a test. Also, contacts of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients do not require a test unless they have comorbidities or are aged above 60.

Meanwhile, Assam in the northeastern belt emerged as a new entrant in the list of states recording spike. With 3,390 infections in a day, the state recorded the highest number of infections past June 2021.
