New Delhi: The Railway board has called off all the train services except for the special trains. All the regular mail trains, express trains, passenger trains along with suburban trains have been called out till August 12. Such a crucial decision was taken in the wake of the coronavirus and to control the pandemic to a certain extent.
All the special trains that include 12 pairs of trains running on the Rajdhani route from the day of May 12 and 100 pairs since June 1 would continue. The officials said that the special suburban train services would continue to run along in the pandemic to ferry all the essentials services in the local arenas. The train services were operating to bring all the migrants and the stranded people.
The Railway Board mentioned that the tickets booked for the regular train services would be cancelled. The amount would be refunded. All the tickets booked from 01. 07. 2020 to 12.08. 2020 would be cancelled as India stands in the 4th rank.
Reports quoting the Railway Board on Thursday had said all regular mail, express and passenger services as well as suburban trains have been cancelled till August 12. The decision was taken keeping in mind the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country, it said citing unnamed sources.
The Railways is running 230 special trains at present and the normal full strength train services is yet to resume since the lockdown ended.
Currently, India has 491170 cases of the novel coronavirus. The country has 15308 death cases so far. The country has 285671 recovered cases.
