Chennai: According to the latest weather forecast, heavy rain is expected to continue to lash parts of Tamil Nadu until Sunday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange alert’ for the districts of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, and Tenkasi.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in some of these districts. People have been advised to avoid venturing out during the heavy rain and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the adverse weather conditions.

The heavy rain has already caused widespread damage in some parts of Tamil Nadu. Several roads have been inundated, and power outages have been reported in many areas. The state government has taken steps to evacuate people from low-lying areas and to provide relief to those affected by the heavy rain.

The Southwest suburbs could see heavy rains as these storms move further West. Meanwhile, there’s a separate set of storms heading towards the northwest suburbs of Chennai once again giving a heavy spell of rain. A break is likely after the current spell of rain ends, with widespread rainfall activity is likely in the state in the coming days.
