Chennai: A flood alert has been issued for Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, andRamanathapuram districts in Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms for today in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu. A red alert has been issued for the southern state.
India Meteorological Department tweeted, “Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over north coastal Tamil Nadu and ghat areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerela; heavy rainfall over remaining Tamil Nadi, South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Lakshwadeep.”

Chennai’s Meteorological department tweeted about heavy rainfall in some regions.
Schools have been directed to remain shut in various districts and colleges have been asked to stay closed due to incessant rainfall. As per the Dam Officer, 4320 cubic feet of excess water will be discharged from Vaigai Dam in Theni.
Earlier on November 12, after the water was discharged from Red Hills Lake, the district government of Tiruvallur issued a red alert for 11 villages. The catchment area’s strong rains persisted and therefore, 500 cubic meters of water had to be released.
