New Delhi: India recorded 2,259 fresh infections in the past 24 hours taking the total number of infections to 4,31,31,822. The first case of BA.4 Subvariant of Omicron in India was detected in Hyderabad, Telangana through India’s COVID-19 Genomic  Surveillance program on Thursday. This sub-variant along with BA.5 has been causing a fresh surge of infections in South Africa, the UK and the US.

The recovery rate at 98.75 per cent accounted for 2,614 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,25,92,455. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.50 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 15,044 accounting for 0.03 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop of 375 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.22 per cent recorded 20 virus-related fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,24,323.

With the administration of more than 15.12 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 191.96 crores according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Under the 12+ vaccination program, Over 3.24 Cr have been administered the 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Under the precautionary dose program, 5,16,058 beneficiaries between 18-44 years have been jabbed while 11,12,877 between 45-59 years have been administered the precautionary dose.
