Farrukhabad: The Uttar Pradesh police have lodged a case under section 306 of IPC that may abetment of suicide in connection to two youths regarding the death of two Dalit girls found hanging from a tree in Farrukhabad earlier this week. The accused, namely Pawan and Deepak of the Jatav community, had called the victims over the phone and harassed them, which resulted in their deaths. This was further strengthened by finding a SIM card in one of the belonging to the victims, which was registered in Pawan’s name.
The case is being prosecuted under a provision of Section 108 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, vulgarly known as Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, that relates to the abetment of suicide. This legal move came after the dissection of the bodies of the two girls, aged fifteen and eighteen years, found hanging from a tree under a mango orchard in Kayamganj, Farrukhabad, on Tuesday morning.
Farrukhabad SP Alok Priyadarshi further said that all the victims were childhood friends and also residents of the same locality. First-degree studies indicate that One girl’s deaths were hanging by the corner of the dupatta, and the second girl was also hanging from the other end of this dupatta, suggesting that both might have committed suicide together. However, the police are investigating the matter to determine the details more details in the case.
The unfortunate incident was realized when the parents of the girls raised the alarm when the girls did not return from a village temple where they had gone to watch Sri Krishna Janmashtami’s tableau. After several hours of searching for the two, they were found dead, dangling from the tree, and beside the bodies, a mobile phone with a SIM card was recovered.
The case is still open, and investigators check each and every detail; the phone and the SIM card were also retrieved as pieces of evidence in order to reveal the circumstances that led to this sad story. The case has attracted a lot of interest and it has been criticised due to the following issues of safety.
