As per the latest order by Delhi police, Jantar Mantar is no longer a designated site. The came based on recommendations by a committee under the Union Home Ministry.
3 new designated locations for protests and sit ins have been announced. The three new protest locations are: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in east Delhi.
Jantar Mantar which lies in the high security area served as the protest site for a very long time. The order denotifying Jantar Mantar as a designated site for protests was issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar.
“Based on the Committee’s recommendations, Jantar Mantar as a protest venue has been de-notified. Three new venues viz Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground, East Delhi have been designated as new venues for organizing protest/demonstrations,” the order said.
A separate order will be issued regarding the standard operating procedures (SOP) for holding protests at the three new locations, police officials said.
Jantar Mantar looses it protest site label amidst protests being held by Opposition parties and the satirical political group Cockroach Janta Party in the national capital demanding the resignation and an FIR against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in SIR.
