WEST BENGAL: As per latest updates by the Indian Met Department, Cyclone Mocha has intensified into very severe cyclonic storm. Emergency services have been activated. Around NDRF 8 teams and 200 rescuers have been mobilized in West Bengal’s Digha.
According to regional Met Dept, Orissa: “Cyclone Mocha has intensified further into a very severe cyclone storm over the South-East Bay of Bengal adjoining with central Bay of Bengal region. Now it is moving with a speed of 9km per hour towards north direction…”: Umashankar Das, IMD Scientist said.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has also released an official statement stating that its personnel have been placed on high lert in response to the IMD’s cyclonic storm Mocha warning. According to the statement, the ICG is prepared to respond to the cyclonic storm as indicated by the IMD, and the update has been communicated with the fisheries and civil administration.
“The SCS “Mocha” lay centered at 0230 hours IST of 12th May 2023 over Southeast adjoining Central Bay of Bengal about 520 km west-northwest of Port Blair”, the IMD tweeted in the wee hours of Friday.
Fishermen, ships, boats and trawlers have been directed not to venture into central and northeast Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea till Sunday. Those sailing in central Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea are advised to return to coast.
Due to the weather conditions, northeastern states of Tripura and Mizoram are likely to get heavy rainfall from Saturday. On the other hand, Nagaland, Manipur and south Assam are expected to get rainfall on Sunday
