Within 24 hours, Cyclone Biparjoy, last seen over the east-central and southeast Arabian Sea, is predicted to move towards the north and strengthen into a strong cyclonic storm. The anticipated dangerous weather and water conditions have caused the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a warning. Wind gusts up to 160 kph are expected in three to four days. The IMD has also advised fishermen to stay away from the waterways.
The storm is likely to hit the coastal districts of Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra. The IMD issued a wind warning for these regions for five days.
On June 7, gale winds with 80-90 kmph, gusting up to 100 kmph, will likely prevail over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of the west-central and southeast Arabian Sea. These winds may intensify by evening to 95-105 kmph, gusting to 115 kmph in the same area.
The IMD has encouraged People in these places to exercise caution and maintain their safety. They have advised us to stay indoors, avoid the roads, and take safety measures against landslides and flooding. Additionally, they have cautioned fishermen from diving off the coast.
These states, which are presently experiencing a drought, are anticipating the cyclone to provide them with much-needed rain. It could harm infrastructure and property as well. The IMD has requested that the states be ready for the storm and take all necessary precautions to protect people and property.
