New Delhi: As per IMD Cyclone Asaani would intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. The update further informed the path of the cyclone northwards along and off the Andaman towards Mynamar coast from Assam in the next 48 hours.
“Depression over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast BoB, about 110 km ENE of Port Blair, 320 km NNE of Car Nicobar. To intensify further into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hrs. To move nearly northwards along & off Andaman towards Myanmar coast in next 48 hrs,” the tweet read.
Scientist RK Jenamani also said that the depression formed over South East and South Andaman Sea has moved towards the North and added that there are chances that the depression will intensify into a cyclonic storm by Monday evening.
Several parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands received light to moderate rainfall/ thundershower and heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Around 150 NRDF personnel have been deployed at different sites predicting danger. The Indian Coast Guard has also taken pre-emptive measures. Ships and aircraft in the South-East Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman Sea relayed warnings to all mariners and hermen at sea. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the say until 22nd March.
