Bhopal: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator and his wife in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, tested positive for Coronavirus, on Saturday shock waved the political circle in Madhya Pradesh.
As per the reports, the member of legislative assembly (MLA), who tested COVID-19 positive, had attended the BJP legislature party meetings on Wednesday and Thursday. He also exercised his franchise vote during the Rajya Sabha polls held at the Madhya Pradesh assembly premises on Friday.
Possibly, the BJP MLA is the second legislator in the Madhya Pradesh state, to be infected with Covid-19. Earlier, a Congress MLA tested positive for the Coronavirus. In the MP state assembly on Friday afternoon, the Congress legislator turned up in a personal protective equipment (PPE) kit to exercise his franchise.
The BJP MLA told media persons that when my wife complained about fever, we got our samples tested on Friday. Now, the BJP MLA and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19. Now we are going to be hospitalised.
Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Ajay Yadav alleged that the state Congress learnt that the BJP MLA got samples of his wife and himself tested for coronavirus two days ago. He still attended the BJP legislature party meetings, met with other MLAs and BJP leaders.
The Congress spokesman Yadav said, adding that the BJP MLA has committed a grave offence by hiding the information about his health. He should be immediately booked as it has done in several other cases in the state, for intentionally spreading the Coronavirus.
In the state of Madhya Pradesh, the tally of COVID-19 positive persons has reached to 11,582. Besides, nine deaths were also reported in the state including four each in Indore and Bhopal and one in Rajgarh district. The death toll due to Coronavirus has now reached to 495 in the state.
