DELHI: With 1,718 new cases and 67 deaths in the past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 33,062 on Thursday. So far, 1,079 people have died due to Covid-19 in the country

The Union health ministry on Thursday said that the recovery rate of COVID-19 cases is at 25.19% which was 13.06%, 14 days ago. “The fatality rate is 3.2 percent. Comorbidities were found in COVID-19 patients in 78 percent of the deaths. Doubling rate of the cases has now increased to 11 days,” said Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry.

Centre says that a total of 58,686 tests were done on Wednesday. It further reported that on an average, 49,000 tests are being conducted per day.

According to the data released by the Health Ministry, while the average number of coronavirus cases in the country are doubling in every 11.3 days, nine states and Union territories are witnessing the doubling in 20 days and above, with Himachal Pradesh at the lead.

Doubling time means the number of days it takes for the Covid-19 cases to duplicate. According to the latest update, Coronavirus cases in Assam are doubling in 59 days, Telangana in 70.8 days, Chhattisgarh in 89.7 days and Himachal Pradesh in 191.6 days.

Indian states hit with most cases are Maharashtra (9,915), Gujarat (4,082), Delhi (3,439), Madhya Pradesh (2,561), Rajasthan (2,438), Tamil Nadu (2,162), and Uttar Pradesh (2,134).

Globally, 3,237,600 people have been infected by coronavirus and the total number of deaths from the disease stands at 228,819. Nations hit with most coronavirus cases at present are the US (1,064,194), Spain (236,899), Italy (203,505), France (165,911) and UK (165,145).
