INDIA: On Wednesday, the COVID-19 count in India approached the 50,000-mark as the states registered 2,958 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The deadly novel coronavirus has infected 49,391 people in the country & the death toll of India has reached 1,694 with 126 new deaths reported in a day. It has been continuously the second day to report around 3000 cases in 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 33,554 active coronavirus cases in India & 14,182 people have recovered from the disease so far.

With 34 new deaths & 984 new cases, Maharashtra recorded 617 deaths due to coronavirus. The total number of coronavirus patients in the state increased to 15,525, the highest in the country. Mumbai has been the worst affected city of the state with 10,000 cases, alone.

Maharashtra (984), Tamil Nadu (508) and Gujarat (441) continue to report high numbers of new COVID-19 cases while Delhi’s coronavirus count reached 5,104 after a deadly spike on Monday.

Tamil Nadu too, is showing a huge increase in coronavirus cases this week. Around 508 people tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. The total coronavirus count in the state rose to 4,058.

Punjab also emerged as a cause of concern as the city witnessed a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the last few days. On Tuesday, the state added over 200 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total count in Punjab to 1,451.

COVID-19 cases have reached 2,880 in Uttar Pradesh out of which 987 patients have recovered while 56 others succumbed to the infection. There were 114 new cases in the state with 1,837 active cases. However, six districts of the state have no active case.

85 positive cases were reported from West Bengal, taking the total cases in the state to 1,344 with 140 deaths due to coronavirus.Tripura, too  reported 14 new positive cases in the last 24 hours taking its total confirmed cases to 43.

Today, no fresh case was reported from Kerala. With seven recoveries, the state now has 30 active cases.

From 4th May, the Union Ministry relaxed several lockdown norms to restart the economy which had come to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, many states like Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat continue to follow complete lockdown while Chhattisgarh, Haryana & Karnataka have ordered partial curfews in the states.
