Delhi: The Health Ministry on Sunday said that there are no new cases in 54 districts in the country and also announced that a high-level task force has been constituted to work on cutting edge vaccine and drug testing.


At the daily media briefing, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said: “A high-level task force has been constituted to work on the frontier of vaccine and drug testing. Its main task is to speed up academia, industry and international efforts.”

It will be co-chaired by the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government and NITI Aayog Member, he added.


Addressing a daily media briefing about the novel coronavirus situation in the country, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said no new Covid-19 case has been reported  54 other districts in 23 states/union territories in the last 14 days.


The Health Ministry official said 2,231 patients have been cured so far in the country.”There are 755 dedicated hospitals and 1,389 dedicated health care centers in the country, this takes the total dedicated facilities – where severe or critical patients can be treated to 2,144,” Lav Agarwal mentioned.


Meanwhile, the ministry said that selective relaxation will be given to non-containment zones in India after April 20 midnight. The health ministry, however, said that no relaxations will be given to the containment zones and added that the government may impose even stricter lockdown measures after April 20 in such areas.


The Health Ministry also said that there are a total of 755 dedicated hospitals and 1,389 dedicated health care centres in the country which takes the total dedicated facilities where severe or critical patients can be treated to 2,144.
