Corona update: Health ministry issues new list of red,orange & green zone as 40 days lockdown nears its end

INDIA: As India is nearing to the date when lockdown is due to end, Health Ministry has released a new & revised list of districts which will fall into the three zones namely, Red, Orange and Green according to the number of coronavirus cases registered from the said district.

On Friday, Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan has written to Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories designating new & revised list of Red, Orange and Green zones.

Sudan stated in the letter that since the recovery rate of those infected by covid19 has gone up during the lockdown, the ministry has now redesigned all the three zones criteria.

The letter states that earlier the districts were designated as hotspots based on cumulative cases and doubling rate. However, she said that the current classification is based on the incidence of cases, doubling rate, the extent of testing, and surveillance feedback.

In the letter, it is mentioned that a district will be considered under green zone if there are no confirmed cases or there is no reported case in last 21 days. 

As of 1st may, Uttar pradesh has the highest number of red zone areas (19), second is Maharashtra with 14 districts under red zone and third is delhi with 11 districts under red zone. The highest percentage of green zone areas lies in the state of Arunachal pradesh (100%), followed by Chhattisgarh (92%) and Assam(90%).
