The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday launched a legal aid initiative for its supporters/volunteers against alleged harassment, intimidation or violence while engaging in the organisation’s activities across the country.
In a statement made via X social media, the CJP stated that its Legal Aid platform is now available and encouraged all those who faced harassment or violence who raised concerns in the field of Education, to share the same concern by accessing and using the legal aid website. The organisation committed to helping them out with the legal aspects of the process as well.
Cockroach Janta Party legal affairs head Ratna Singh also announced the initiative, which he termed as a move towards ‘creating a legal support network across the country’. She claimed the aim was to eliminate the need for any individual CJP supporter or volunteer to have to go through a court battle alone.
The introduction follows the activation of an online tool to monitor lawsuits against protesters, and to match them with the available legal support, by the organization just days ago. Kabil Sibal, MP, Rajya Sabha and CJP spokesperson Saurav Das made the announcement on July 28.
The new program is poised to become a formal pathway for pro bono legal help for those supporting lawyers who are being taken to court, and a broadened attempt by the organisation to be of service during legal battles.
