Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka may be released by the end of five days of their judicial custody as today’s date to discontinue the criteria comes and CJP alleges the Delhi Police has been deliberate in delaying the release. The party would have warned the action is forthcoming if the two leaders are not released.

Ratna Singh, Director (Legal Affairs) in CJP, stated that the processes had been followed and a formal way was pending. Moreover, the organization alleged that the two leaders were being held in custody using the “fear gap tactics,” which it said it had done with senior advocate Kapil Sibal.

The party’s lawyers had filed the necessary security papers, and the Special Executive Magistrate is likely to release them by now, according to reports.

Abhijeet Dipke granted Conditional Bail

On Saturday, Abhijeet Dipke, founder of CJP, was released on provisional bail after being arrested en route to Connaught Place on Sunday for the ‘Lehra Do Tiranja’ march. He was sent on his way with the provocation that for one year he was to be at peace.

All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was arrested on Friday and released after an overnight detention after completion of formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.

Das and Ranka had been arrested earlier this week for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar, which had been taken off the list of prohibited protest areas. They are said to have jumped the fence at a locked gate and carried the national flag together with other party members.

Das and Ranka have been admitted to judicial custody for five days after being placed on the preventive wings of the authorities whereas CJP national organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde and 11 others were released. Police have given no details about the trespassing, obstruction of public servants or peace bond violations in connection with the case.

CJP questions Detention and Election Commission

The CJP, student groups and opposition parties had been protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in recent past, which has lead to these detentions.

The protests come on the back of allegations by two Election Commissioners regarding actions by the Electoral Commission. The Election Commission of India, on the other hand, has insisted upon its decisions being unanimous.

Das had previously been free, and Ranka was waiting for him, said Dipke, who released them after his imprisonment was lifted, showing him a picture of the two of them together. CJP claimed that procedures were not followed for the two leaders to be released at an earlier stage and threatened to seek legal action if it is not resolved.
