NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE Board) has cancelled the pending Class 10, Class 12 Board Exam 2020 which were scheduled to take place from 1-15 July. The decision came amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases in India.
On Thursday, CBSE conveyed its decision of canceling the remaining examination to Supreme court. Earlier, there was an issue raised in a plea which has sought quashing of the board’s notification for conducting remaining examinations of Class XII.
Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta informed Supreme Court that Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have conveyed inability to conduct the examinations due to the widespread of COVID19 cases in these region.
The apex court took note of Centre’s submission and asked CBSE to issue fresh notification clarifying details of Class XII board exams.
In addition to that, ICSE board also cancelled class 10 and 12 board exams. However, ICSE doesn’t agree to give option to students to write exam later, Mehta informed SC.
The students will have an option if they wish to appear for the examination they can but if they don’t want to give the examinations their marks will be evaluated from their performance of the last two examinations. The option for appearing in the exam is only for the students of class 12th not for the students of class 10th.
Apart from that, certain other states such as Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have cancelled the class X exams and decided to promote the candidates to the next level in view of the pandemic.
With the rise in coronavirus cases across the country, final year exams with other universities are also likely to be cancelled. A final decision on exams with university and educational institutes is yet awaited.
NEET & JEE Likely to postpone:
As per sources, Engineering entrance exam JEE (Main) and Medical entrance exam (NEET-UG) examinations are also likely to be deferred this year. However, students should note that there is no official confirmation on the same by HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal or from the Board itself.
