The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), along with other central agencies, has successfully extradited alleged mastermind Sourabh Chandrakar from Oman for his involvement in the ₹6000-crore Mahadev online betting syndicate.
A CBI team for India’s sake, specially sent to Oman, surrounded Chandrakar and helped him reach India. He is likely to be produced before the CBI Special Court in Raipur, an official said.
CBI Confirms Chandrakar’s Return
An officer said that the agency in confirming the development had successfully assisted in the extradition of Chandrakar, “promoter Mahadev App illegal betting syndicate.
A special team of the CBI was deployed for the purpose and he was brought back to India by it, the official said. Now, Chandrakar will be subjected to trial in the special court at Raipur.
How the Mahadev Network Operated
The 30-plus-year-old Chandrakar allegedly founded the betting site with fellow founder Ravi Uppal. The pair is said to have relocated to Dubai sometime around 2019 from where the syndicate reportedly continued to wager via the betting apps and websites.
Indian agencies had tried a number of times to get Chandrakar to stand trial in the matter. That same month, October 2024, he was detained via the UAE Interpol Red Notice for several hours and under house arrest.
On the same month, India had made an extradition request to the UAE. But that plea wasn’t taken and ultimately proved futile.
The Omani authorities have now extradited him, adding another twist to the quest to unravel the gambling ring. Now that the hue and cry has gone the legal process is set to go ahead against Chandrakar before the CBI Special Court set up at Raipur.
