The state education department of Bihar has decided to replace the word “fail” on the matric and intermediate mark sheets with “eligible for skills,” Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said on Thursday, adding that poor examination scores could not determine a child’s talent.
Announcing the big move during a review meeting at Vikas Bhavan, Tiwari informed the rules would be amended and the Bihar School Examination Board would soon receive the necessary instructions.
Besides, the government has announced special classes for the matric supplementary examination for a month to help students prepare better and improve their chances of clearing the test.
Meanwhile, preparations for the state Teachers’ Day celebrations on September 5 at Shri Krishna Memorial Hall are being reviewed. CM Samrat Chowdhary will inaugurate the event in the presence of both Deputy CMs and launch the Teacher Support Portal. One teacher from each district will receive a state award.
Students from ten Patna Model Schools, selected as Saraswati Vidya Niketan Schools, along with teachers from DIETs, SCERT and teacher training centres, will attend the event.
During the meeting, Tiwari also reviewed the expenditure and income of various education-related bodies, including the Bihar Education Project Council, and directed officials to ensure better implementation of schemes and proper utilisation of resources.
