Engagement festivities of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani, and Encore Healthcare CEO Viren Merchant’s daughter, Radhika Merchant kicked off in Mumbai on Thursday. The couple got formally engaged today (January 19) in the presence of close friends and family in Mumbai. A roka of the couple was held in December in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.
Pictures of the couple made rounds on the internet. According to a statement released by the family, the Ambanis, along with their close friends and family, were in attendance for the occasion. Apart from the rituals, the family members also performed a surprise dance number, led by Nita Ambani.
The ceremony was a traditional one with Gujarati Hindu rituals such as Gol Dhana and Chunari Vidhi. Gol Dhana, a pre-wedding ceremony where jaggery and coriander seeds are exchanged in a symbolic gesture, and the Chunari Vidhi followed. After the festivity and rituals, the couple exchanged rings among good wishes and blessings from the gathering.
Radhika was seen in a gold embellished lehenga and Anant donned a deep blue traditional kurta. The rest of the family, too, were decked in shades of gold and blue.
