World Accreditation Day (WAD) is a global initiative celebrated every year on June 9th highlighting the importance of accreditation in our daily lives. Established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), WAD aims to raise awareness about how accreditation fosters trust in various sectors.
World Accreditation Day (WAD) was first accepted in 2007 by the Joint General Assembly of both the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). The first celebration of World Accreditation Day took place on 9th June 2008.
The theme for WAD 2024 is “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future”. The theme marks the crucial role accreditation plays in navigating our ever-evolving world. It also highlights its role, particularly with the rise of digitization, new technologies, and growing sustainability concerns.
Accreditation plays a key role in supporting the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to meet objectives such as increasing trade and addressing environmental, health and safety concerns. It also improves the general overall quality of output in an economy.
