Entertainment: Actor Tom Cruise is in talks with the National Space & Aeronautics Administration along with SpaceX Chief Elon Musk about developing a feature-length action adventure film set and shot in outer space.
NASA Administrator, Jim Bridenstine wrote on Twitter, “Nasa is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the Space Station!.”
He further added, “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make Nasa’s ambitious plans a reality.”
Musk has not officially confirmed the collaboration, but replied to Bridenstine, “Should be a lot of fun!”
However, no response or comment has been received yet, by the representatives of Cruise.
Bridenstine gave no further details about the project. But a report published in Deadline on Monday stated that Cruise was working with Tesla and SpaceX entrepreneur Elon Musk to make what would be the first feature film to be shot in space.
It further reported that the proposed action adventure is in its early stages. And it made it clear that the film would not be a “Mission: Impossible” sequel, as the project is not attached to a studio at this early stage.
Citing Cruise’s affinity for action stunts, Deadline quoted that, “he’d be alone in the Hollywood record books if the actor pulls off the first narrative Hollywood film shot in space.”
Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, 57, is renowned for doing his own stunts in highly adventurous action films. He flew fighter jets for the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, and for the Mission Impossible films has hung off the side of a plane as it took off, and climbed the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai – the tallest building in the world.
Filming on Mission: Impossible 7 was put on hold in February as the coronavirus epidemic took hold of Italy. The disease has led to a worldwide shutdown of Hollywood movie and TV production and the closure of movie theatres.
