Mumbai: John Abraham-starrer The Diplomat surprised everyone when it started its box office journey with Rs 4 crore. During the first weekend, the film managed to stay afloat but since the week started, The Diplomat has been trying to find its feet. On Wednesday, which was its sixth day in the theatres, the Shivam Nair directorial made Rs 1.4 crore, taking its nett domestic total to Rs 17.65 crore, as per industry sources.

John’s The Diplomat has released at a time when Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is dominating the box office. Even on its 34th day in the theatres, which was the film’s fifth Wednesday, the film managed to make Rs 2.7 crore. While The Diplomat can’t compete with Chhaava, it seems to be doing decently well in comparison to John’s last release Vedaa. Vedaa was released during the Independence Day weekend in 2024 but by the time it reached its first Wednesday, the film’s collections were down to Rs 70 lakh. Vedaa made Rs 22.54 crore during its theatrical run.

Directed by Shivam Nair, The Diplomat follows the gripping story of the Deputy High Commissioner of India, JP Singh (played by John Abraham), who takes on a high-stakes mission to rescue Uzma Ahmed (played by Sadia Khateeb) from Pakistan.

Set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan relations, the film explores themes of diplomacy, resilience and the personal conflicts faced by diplomats.
