Producer Dinesh Vijan has confirmed that Stree 3, the third installment in the Maddock horror-comedy franchise, will hit the theatres in 2028.
Vijan made the announcement on Wednesday at FICCI Frames 2026, where he appeared alongside actor Rajkummar Rao. He said the film will go on floors only after director Amar Kaushik completes Mahavatar. The delay comes as director Amar Kaushik first turns his attention to Mahavatar, which Vijan has described as Maddock Films’ most ambitious project yet.
“Amar Kaushik is the most integral part of Stree and the entire horror-comedy franchise. He’s directing our most ambitious film, Mahavatar, which is the story of Bhagwan Parshuram. He starts shooting at the end of January and finishes by June, and then we go on floors with Stree 3 towards the end of next year.” he said during the announcement.
Withour revealing any plot details, Vijan said, “So, Stree 3 arrives in 2028. And I think anything that you’ve thought of, remove it from your mind. If I say anything more, you’ll be very upset with me because he’s finished writing it, and he thinks I give away too many spoilers.”
The 2028 date is consistent with earlier remarks. Vijan had previously said the film would not arrive in 2026, explaining that the makers did not want to repeat themselves after the success of Stree 2 and Munjya. Stree 2 released on August 15, 2024, which will make the gap between the second and third films a long one.
At the same event, Rajkummar Rao spoke about how the original Stree began as a small-budget project, describing the audience response as “insane”. Vijan recalled that Kaushik was nervous when the first film’s box office numbers began climbing.
Stree 3 is expected to feature Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, who led the earlier instalments. No cast or director announcement was made at the event.
